In Myung-jin (born June 1, 1946 in Dangjin , Chungcheongnam-do ) is a South Korean Presbyterian pastor and since December 2016 interim chairman of the Freedom Party of Korea .

Life

In Myung-jin attended secondary school in Daejeon and then studied at Hanshin University . In received his Masters in Theology from Presbyterian University in Seoul and his Ph.D. at the Theological Seminary in San Francisco .

In has been involved in the democratic movement in South Korea since the late 1970s and was imprisoned a total of four times under the Park Chung-hees government . After South Korea was slowly reformed under President Chun Doo-hwan , In 1986 founded the Galilee Church in Guro-gu , Seoul, and has been pastor there ever since. He was also the head of various religious and social organizations and a professor at Christian universities. He currently holds a chair at the Institute for Peace and Unity at Soongsil University .

From 2006 to 2008 In was chairman of the ethics committee of the Great National Party (GNP) and helped it regain a majority in the 2008 national assembly after the party had lost it in the 2004 elections . He was also an advisor to President Lee Myung-bak . On December 23, 2016, he was nominated to head the Crisis Committee of the Saenuri Party (SP), the successor to the Grand National Party, after In rejected several requests from Saenuri Party leader Chung Woo-Taik . The reason for the establishment of the crisis committee was the resignation of more than 30 members of the National Assembly and their establishment of the Bareun party . On December 29th, In was elected at the Saenuri party convention and is thus interim party chairman. In February 2017, the Saenuri Party renamed itself the Freedom Party of Korea .
