Inbox by Gmail was an e-mail - the online service of the US company Google LLC , which enabled the management of e-mails, appointments and tasks.

history

The service was announced as a beta version on October 22, 2014 . Access was only possible via a personal invitation from other users or, alternatively, an "invitation" could also be requested directly from the provider. Since May 28, 2015, Inbox has been available to anyone with a Google account . On April 2, 2019, Google shut down the service.

Functions

Inbox offered an app for Android and iOS . Access to the service was also possible via a web browser .

According to the provider, the service was developed on the basis of experience with the in-house service Gmail and therefore offered more than classic e-mail functions and thus represented an alternative to the Gmail service. For example, e-mails were automatically sorted into categories, such as B. Travel, Finance and Advertising. Order status, reservation details and pictures were displayed in the email list without opening the messages. In addition, tasks could be managed using reminders in the inbox.

Since August 9, 2016, messages from GitHub , Trello and Google Alerts have also been grouped in the inbox.
