Incallaqta

Incallaqta ( Quechua : Inka llaqta, "Inca city" or "Inca community", also: Incallacta , Inkallakta or Incallajta ) is an extensive historical Inca site in central Bolivia . It is located about 130 kilometers east of Cochabamba at an altitude of 2950  m in the municipality of Pocona .

The Incallaqta settlement complex was built in the 15th century and covers an area of ​​80 hectares . The main building of the facility, Kallanka , measures 25 × 78 m and was the largest building under one roof in the western world when it was built. The roof structure rested on 24 pillars that had a diameter of two meters at their base.

The ruins were excavated in the first decade of the 21st century under the direction of archaeologist Lawrence S. Coben ( University of Pennsylvania ).
