Berislav Grgić (born February 15, 1960 in Novo Selo , Banja Luka ) is a Roman Catholic bishop and prelate of the Territorial Prelature of Tromsø in northern Norway .

Life

Berislav Grgić was born in 1960 as the second of seven children to a Croatian farming family. He attended the boys' seminary, high school and seminary in Zadar , Croatia. On June 29, 1986, Bishop Franjo Komarica consecrated him in the Cathedral of St. Bonaventure in Banja Luka as a priest of the Diocese of Banja Luka . After that, Grgić was pastor for two years in several parishes. In 1988 his bishop sent him to study at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

From 1991 to 1992 Grgić was a spiritual director in the Zadar seminary. During the civil war in the former Yugoslavia he worked for the Croatian refugees at Caritas in Zagreb until 1995 . After returning to a parish in his home diocese for a short time , he was expelled from the Banja Luka diocese on August 20, 1995 together with around 30,000 Croatians .

Appointed head of the Croatian Catholic Mission in Norway in 1996, he held this position until 2007. From 2004 to 2006 he was simultaneously vicar general of the diocese of Oslo and episcopal vicar for immigrant pastoral care. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him papal honorary prelate in 2007 .

Since September 2007 he was the parish administrator of the parish association Oberhaching , district of Munich , which includes the parishes of St. Stephan in Oberhaching and St. Bartholomäus in Deisenhofen.

On December 18, 2008 Grgić was received by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed prelate of the Tromsø Territorial Prelature in northern Norway. The episcopal ordination received his Bernt Ivar Eidsvig on March 28, 2009 in Tromsø . Co -consecrators were Bishop Gerhard Schwenzer , Apostolic Vicar of Central Norway and Franjo Komarica , Bishop of Banja Luka .

Grgić is the northernmost bishop in the world.
