Bernt Ivar Eidsvig CRSA , religious name Markus (born September 12, 1953 in Rjukan , Norway ) is Bishop of the Diocese of Oslo and Apostolic Administrator of the Trondheim Prelature .

Life

He studied Protestant theology in Oslo and became a theological candidate in 1976. He converted to Catholicism on December 20, 1977 and was ordained a priest on June 20, 1982 . He was a chaplain and later pastor of Bergen . In 1991 he joined the Augustinian Canons in Klosterneuburg Abbey (Austria), was dressed on August 27 and was given the religious name Markus. His solemn profession was on August 28, 1995. From 1996 he was novice master , 1997–2003 pastor in St. Leopold (Klosterneuburg) .

On July 29, 2005, the feast of the Scandinavian missionary Olav , he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Oslo. On October 22nd, 2005 he received the episcopal ordination in Oslo through his predecessor Gerhard Schwenzer SSCC . Co- consecrators were its predecessor John Willem Gran OCSO and the Bishop of Stockholm , Anders Arborelius OCD . On June 8, 2009, after the resignation of Bishop Georg Müller, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Trondheim Prelature .

In February 2015, investigations into fraud against him and the diocese began. He was accused of having given the authorities an excessive number of Catholics in the diocese of Oslo and thereby claimed excessive government payments. At the end of November 2016, the investigation against Eidsvig was closed because neither he nor the diocese could be proven to have attempted fraud. However, charges were brought against the bishopric's economist. The investigations against the diocese were stopped in exchange for a payment of around 110,000 euros.

On October 28, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments .
