Erik Varden

Erik Varden OCSO (born May 13, 1974 in Sarpsborg ) is a Norwegian Roman Catholic religious and appointed prelate of Trondheim .

Life

Erik Varden completed his philosophical and theological studies in Cambridge and was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD . After further studies in the Eastern Church, he obtained a licentiate at the Pontifical Oriental Institute . On April 20, 2002, he entered the Abbey of Mount St. Bernard in Leicestershire in the religious community of Trappist one, put on 1 October 2004, the first and on 6 October 2007, the solemn profession from. On July 16, 2011, he received the sacrament of ordination from the Bishop of Nottingham , Malcolm McMahon OP , who had already ordained him a deacon on September 9 of the previous year .

After returning to England in 2013, he took over the provisional management of Mount St. Bernard Abbey in Leicestershire, of which he was elected abbot in 2015.

On 1 October 2019 it appointed Pope Francis to the prelate of Trondheim . The ordination as bishop planned for January 4th of the following year was postponed to October 2020 for health reasons.
