Mount Saint Bernard Monastery (Latin Abbatia BM de Monte Sancti Bernardi ) is a Trappist abbey in Coalville, Leicestershire , Diocese of Nottingham , United Kingdom .
history
Monks from the Irish monastery of Mount Melleray and its mother house , who had been expelled from France, founded Monastery Melleray - with the support of Ambrose Lisle March Phillipps De Lisle (1809–1878) and John Talbot, 16th Earl of Shrewsbury (1791– 1852) - In 1835, north-west of Leicester, Mount Saint Bernard Monastery was the first Trappist monastery in England and the first Roman Catholic monastery to be built in England since the Reformation (elevated to an abbey in 1848).
