The Trondheim Prelature (often also referred to by the old name Central Norway ; Latin Praelatura Territorialis Trudensis , Norwegian Trondheim stift ) is a Catholic territorial prelature based in Trondheim . It is headed by a bishop but does not have the status of a diocese . Since the term prelature is unknown in Norway, the term pen is used there. In practice, however, it functions like a diocese.

history

The first organized Catholic activity in Trondheim after the Reformation occurred in 1844 when five Catholics in the city asked for a visit from a priest from Oslo. The first church was founded in 1872. 1931 was with the Breve Supremi Apostolatus by Pius XI. the Vicariate Apostolic of Norway was divided into three jurisdictions , making Central Norway a missionary district. In 1935 this was the bull Digna sane by Pius XII. Elevated to the Apostolic Prefecture, on February 4, 1953 with the Bull Sollemne est Nobis to the Vicariate and on March 28, 1979 with the Bull Cum Nobis by John Paul II finally to the Territorial Prelature.

On May 25, 2014, St. Olav's Church , built in 1973, was profaned because it had become too small for the growing parish . The dilapidated church was then torn down. In 2015, the construction of today's St. Olav Church, which was consecrated on November 19, 2016, began according to plans by the architect Jan Morten Breidablikk.
