Franjo Komarica (born February 3, 1946 in Novakovići , SR Bosnia-Herzegovina , Yugoslavia ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Banja Luka .

Life

The Croatian Franjo Komarica studied theology and church music in Innsbruck ; 1978 doctorate KOMARICA specialist liturgy . He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Banja Luka on June 29, 1972.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Banja Luka and titular bishop of Satafis on October 28, 1985 . The Pope personally donated him his episcopal ordination on January 6, 1986. Co- consecrators were the Curia Cardinals Agostino Casaroli and Bernardin Gantin .

On May 15, 1989, Pope John Paul II appointed Franjo Komarica bishop of Banja Luka. Since 2010 he has been President of the Bishops' Conference for Bosnia and Herzegovina . He already held this office from 2002 to 2005.

Bishop Komarica received the Heinrich Pesch Prize in 1997 , which was awarded to him by the Association of Scientific Catholic Student Associations Unitas . The award was intended to recognize his tireless commitment to human rights across all ethnic, political and religious borders. He stood up for Catholics, Muslims and Orthodox alike ” . In 2002 he was awarded the Coudenhove Kalergi Foundation award.
