life and work

Menuez was born and raised in New York, and became known as the founder of the Luck You collective. Her works of art range from drawings to sculptures to performances, mostly produced in collaboration with the collective. Her drawings show the outlines of animals or figures that are reminiscent of drawings by Picasso. Her performances often revolve around the female body in motion and its representation in the media. At the Museum of Modern Art , she curated a performance art marathon called Booklub 10 as part of The Newsstand, an installation in the Ocean of Images exhibition.

In January 2010, Menuez posted the new name on social media , previously known as India Salvör Menuez. In an interview with Vanity Fair , Menuez, when asked how Bobbi came about, stated that she was careless about choosing a name, and that the name felt good and always better. When she began to incorporate the name Bobbi into her life, she found that this was an important aspect of her life in order to get into her own embodiment as a trans - non-binary person.

Quote: “ How did you land on the name Bobbi? / There are certain decisions in my life that I approach with a lot of scrutiny and for some reason, picking a new name, I just approached it with no scrutiny at all. I tried it out and it felt good, and it's continued to feel better and better. As I started to integrate it into my life, I just found that it was really an important part of me stepping into my own embodiment as a trans non-binary person.
