The Indra Pelícano is an unmanned helicopter developed by the Spanish company Indra Sistemas in Alcobendas and built at the Indra plant in Torrejón de Ardoz .

description

The cell of the Pelícano is based on the fiber composite construction of a medium-sized manned helicopter from the Swedish company CybAero . The first flight took place in December 2011. At the beginning of 2012, the Pelicano by Indra Systemas was demonstrated in operation to the representatives of the Spanish authorities at the Aeródromo de Marugán airport in the province of Segovia .

The Indra Pelícano with a maximum take-off weight of 200 kg is equipped with optical and infrared systems that transmit high-resolution images. It can also be equipped with a light Ka-SAR radar and various sensors for detecting chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear dangerous goods (Indar designation: CBRN). A pilot and two systems technicians are required to operate an unmanned helicopter. The system has a satellite link for real-time transmission of video, image, sensor and flight control data.

The system of the Indra Pelícano can be fully integrated with control and monitoring equipment on ships and connected to the ship surveillance system in addition to the on-board radar.

The Indra Pelícano will be used from 2014 to monitor and control piracy off the Somali coast as part of the EU military operation on frigates in Operation Atalanta .
