The Lauf Industrial Museum in Lauf an der Pegnitz is a craft and industrial history museum that shows exhibits from the years 1890 to 1970. It is part of the North Bavarian Industriestrasse .

history

Valve factory (left), behind it a mill and forge

The Lauf Industrial Museum is part of a historic commercial and industrial district below the old town of Lauf. In 1992 the museum was opened in four buildings and expanded in 2008 by ten buildings from a former valve factory.

exhibition

The museum shows the life and work of urban workers and craftsmen from around 1890 to around 1970. In addition to historical technology, the social environment and the living situation of the city's population is also presented.

A tour of four areas awaits the visitor. For breakfast industry include iron hammer mill and flour mill and a small power station, all with water wheel.

The handicraft and trade department houses a hairdressing salon , umbrella and hat workshop , shoemaker's workshop , butcher's shop and a drugstore .

In the living area , two complete apartments, one of which dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, the second from the " kidney table " era, give an impression of the changing world of living.

The fourth area deals with high industry . In addition to a tandem steam engine from 1902, the former Dietz & Pfriem valve factory reflects the development from the First World War with a focus on the period from 1930 to the 1960s. The factory rooms, which have largely been preserved in their original state, include steel stores, production rooms (drop forge, turning and grinding shop), packing, valve storage and social rooms.

building

The mill ensemble

All of the museum's buildings are at their original location on the river, some of them essentially date from the 16th century. Four large water wheels from around 1900 have been preserved. The youngest building, the “hydraulic engineering” of the valve factory, was built in 1936/37. Since the building stock has not been changed since then, it shows the condition of the factory in the 1930s. The entire building complex, including the original furnishings, is a listed building and represents an industrial historical cultural monument in Bavaria.

program

In the museum itself there are regular changing exhibitions and special events. Well known are the annual Laufer Steam Model Days , an exhibition of around 300 historical or self-built steam models, engines, trains and ships, in cooperation with the steam friends Nuremberg . The industrial museum Lauf offers educational activities and tours for all age groups . Mill, forge, water wheels and steam engine can be seen in operation on certain days.
