Infinera Corporation is a manufacturer of optical transmission systems for long distances over fiber optic networks with the help of density wavelength division multiplexing technology for the market of telecommunication service providers.

Infinera claims to have changed the world of optical telecommunications with its "Digital Optical Networking," a new approach made possible by photonic integration.

Infinera is a vertically integrated company. It has its own chip manufacturing (fab) in Allentown and designs and manufactures the "chip to the system" in-house.

According to its own statements, the company is the market leader for the optical core network (backbone DWDM) in North America.

history

In 2000, the predecessor company Zepton Networks was founded and was the first capital injection in April of 2001. The young company, worked "hidden", were presented to the first products in 2004, although some early press reports, the technology of its components - integrated optical circuits of Indium phosphide described.

Infinera went public in 2007. The IPO raised $ 182 million.
