The Informatikmittelschule (IMS) is a training facility in Switzerland , which you can attend there after the compulsory 9 school years. In addition to the federal certificate of competency as a computer scientist specializing in application development, as is also obtained with a completed apprenticeship, you also receive a commercial (not technical) vocational diploma . Schools once had a quota for women in order to offer targeted support for women in IT. However, this was given up due to a lack of qualified prospects in order to better cover the need for skilled workers.

Conditions for registration

Entry into the IT middle school can take place after completing compulsory schooling (nine school years) or after an additional year. The age limit is 18 years with the cut-off date on May 1st .

education

The training path is divided into two parts as follows:

  • 3 years of secondary school education . Is completed at the respective canton school. Includes compartments for commercial and general education as accounting , business administration , economics , history , political science , languages (French and English), mathematics , project chains in economics , history and ecology (list not complete). On average, computer science- related subjects are taught one day a week . External specialists or institutes are usually used for this. After these three years, the interns must pass the diploma examination in their school subjects. However, the diploma and diploma itself are only issued at the end of the internship year.
  • 1 year internship with a company in the IT sector that is authorized to train apprentices. The internship positions must be sought by the trainees themselves; The school actively arranges jobs for your graduates, so that it rarely happens that you are still without a job at the start of the school year. The internship itself is a full-time position - no school subjects will be taught during this year. The interns are already sufficiently well founded in the basics of application development to be able to work as full employees in the company after a short training period. During this year, the individual practical work will also be completed, a maximum of two weeks of independent work in the field of computer science, which is a prerequisite for graduation.

Graduating from the IMS entitles you to admission to a university of applied sciences (FH) without an examination . The universities of applied sciences HSR and zhaw , which offer computer science courses with different focuses, are popular.
