Ingeborg Maschmann (born March 9, 1921 in Hamburg ) is a German school teacher and professor emeritus at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg .

Life

After graduating from high school at the Walddörfer-Gymnasium Hamburg, which is oriented towards reform education , Maschmann studied history, German, philosophy, and English from 1940 to 1944 in Hamburg, Marburg and Freiburg and worked from 1944 to 1950 in Jena with the reform teacher Peter Petersen at his university school. According to Hein Retter , she was also a member of the NSDAP like Petersen and was therefore briefly dismissed after 1945. She did her doctorate at the University of Jena in 1947 and experienced the defamation of Petersen by the SED power in February 1949 , above all Georg Schneider , when she herself took the minutes of a meeting of the SED lecturers' group with the decision on Petersen's dismissal (printed in Lebensreise, 2010, P. 373). She herself kept in contact with his supporters in northern Germany and was appointed to the Lüneburg University of Education in 1950 , where there was already a group of Petersen's supporters. Later confronted with his National Socialist quotations, e.g. B. from Benjamin Ortmeyer , she distanced herself without questioning the work as such. In 1986 she retired.

She is the first honorary citizen of Leuphana University. Their services also include the planning and implementation of the university archive. With its own foundation, it has been promoting young academics with grants since 2000. The Faculty of Sustainability celebrates Ingeborg Maschmann Day every year .
