Karin Inger Sandberg , née Eriksson (born August 2, 1930 in Karlstad ), is a Swedish writer and illustrator .

Inger Sandberg is known for her books about Susi (Swedish: Lilla Anna) and the little ghost Laban. The books, translated into about 30 languages, were illustrated by her husband Lasse Sandberg . She worked with him for over 50 years. Before she became a full-time children's book author, she worked as a primary school teacher for six years.

Life

Inger Sandberg grew up in Karlstad. There she lived with her father, the agronomist Johan Eriksson and her mother Hanna Carlstet. In 1950 she married the cartoonist and illustrator Lasse Sandberg . The couple lived in the country for a year. Then they moved to Strängnäs . There Sandberg trained as a primary school teacher. In 1952, Sandberg gave birth to a daughter, Lena. Since she did not want to drop out, her husband stayed at home. For a short time he took part in the evening courses at the art school on the subject of drawing. On the initiative of her husband, Inger Sandberg began to write short stories, which Lasse Sandberg illustrated. The following year, the couple's first book together, Fåret Ullrik får medalj, was published . In 1955 the couple had their second child, Niklas. Sandberg wrote stories about their two children. Inger Sandberg's breakthrough came in 1964 with the first book about Susi (Lilla Anna), which she wrote for her unborn child. The Sandbergs took part in anti-smoking campaigns and published three books on the subject of smoking cessation. The first was published in 1971 under the title Vad är det som ryker? released. Inger Sandberg became a grandmother in the 1980s. The first grandson, Pulvret, was the main character in several stories. The first is called Hjälpa till, sa Pulvret and was published in 1983. Pulvret's books did not appear in Germany. In 1995 Inger Sandberg was a guest author in Singapore, Taipei, Seoul, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. From 1995 to 1999 she held a chair at the Swedish Children's Book Academy. In 2008 her husband died.

Inger and Lasse Sandberg have written over a hundred children's books. Her books have been translated into 33 languages ​​and are very popular in Japan, among others. I. Sandberg made her debut as a caricaturist in 1956 in the autumn salon of the Kunstverein Värmland with four ink drawings. She later took part in several collection exhibitions.
