Ingersoll is a town near the Thames River in the southwest of the Canadian province of Ontario . The population is around 12,146 (as of 2011).
history
The city in Oxford County was founded by Thomas Ingersoll , a royal during the American Revolutionary War between 1775 and 1783, who fled the United States for Canada. His daughter was Laura Secord and became a Canadian national heroine in the British-American War in 1813 .
economy
The area was known for its cheese production and for being home to Canada's first cheese factory. Today the city is an important industrial location. Large companies such as CAMI Automotive (GM subsidiary) settled here.
