Ingrid Wessel

Ingrid Wessel (* as Ingrid Wöller on January 11, 1942 in Bobersberg ) is a German historian and Southeast Asian scholar who primarily deals with the history and culture of Southeast Asia , especially Indonesia .

Ingrid Wessel was delegated to the Lomonossow University in Moscow to study abroad , where she studied Indonesian studies. From 1967 she held a scheduled academic traineeship at the Humboldt University of Berlin (HUB), in 1970 she became a research assistant . In October 1972 the doctorate took place with a thesis on the topic The Indonesian Bourgeoisie. Problems of their development and their position in the national liberation struggle up to 1965 . The reviewers were Kurt Huber , Diethelm Weidemann and Helmut Fessen . The PhD B followed in July 1982 with the thesis on the development of social structures and political leaders in Indonesia and the Philippines. A comparative analysis by Weidemann, Horst Grienig and Klaus Ernst . In February 1983 Wessel became a university lecturer for the New History of Southeast Asia in the Southeast Asia Department of the Asian Studies section of the HUB. In 1988 she became a full professor for the New History of Southeast Asia, from 1994 she taught as a professor for Indonesian at the seminar for Southeast Asian Studies at the HUB and is head of the "Modern Southeast Asia" department.
