Ingrid Woolard

Ingrid Woolard (born October 9, 1970 ) is a South African economist and university professor .

Career, research and teaching

Woolard studied at the University of Natal , she in on the 1992 statistics and economics as a Bachelor of Science graduate . She then moved to the University of South Africa , where she completed her degree in economics in 1995. She initially worked as an economist for the National Treasury until 1997 before returning to academic operations as a lecturer at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University . At the same time, she completed her Ph.D. at the University of Cape Town until 2002. -Education. In 2004 she returned to the University of Natal as a Senior Research Fellow , which, after merging with the University of Durban-Westville, now renamed the University of KwaZulu-Natal . In 2005 she moved back to the University of Cape Town, where she was initially Chief Research Officer and from 2008 Associate Professor . With work from January 2014 she was appointed full professor at the university . In 2018, she accepted a call from Stellenbosch University , where she took over the management of the business administration faculty as dean .

Woolard's work and research focus is in the field of labor economics . She focuses in particular on questions of social security as well as poverty and inequality and methods of combating them in the context of labor market programs or tax policy. She is a Research Fellow of the Bonn Research Institute on the Future of Work . Between 2008 and 2014 she was a member of the Employment Conditions Commission , which advises the South African government on labor market issues, and has chaired the committee since 2011. She also advised the Treasury Department as a member of the Davis Tax Committee on possible tax reforms.
