Injong ( Korean : 인종 ) (born March 10, 1515 in Hanseong , Joseon ; † August 8, 1545 ibid) was the 12th King of the Joseon Dynasty ( 조선 왕조 ) (1392-1910) in his reign from 1544 to 1545 Korea .
Life
Yi Ho ( 이호 ), as King Injong was called when he was born, was the firstborn son of King Jungjong ( 중종 ) and Queen Janggyeong ( 장경 ), Jungjong's second wife. When King Injong took office in December 1544, he tried to correct his father's mistakes and restored the reputation of the scholar and reformer Jo Gwangjo ( 조광조 ), who was killed under his father's rule in 1519 . He also rehabilitated the scholars of the Sarim faction, who had lost their influence at court at the time.
Constant tension between him and his stepmother Queen Munjeong ( 문정 ), who was his father's third wife, later led to rumors among scholars at court that she had poisoned her stepson King Injong.
With only eight months in office, King Injong is believed to be the ruler with the shortest reign during the Joseon Dynasty. He was followed by his half-brother King Myeongjong ( 명종 ).
