Innocenz Deixlberger

Innocenz Deixlberger (also Deixlperger or Drixlberger) OSB , baptized name Matthias (born February 8, 1701 in Metten ; † September 20, 1776 ibid) was a Benedictine in Metten Monastery and professor of philosophy and theology in Salzburg .

Life

Matthias Deixlberger entered the Benedictine abbey of his birthplace Metten in 1720 and received the religious name Innocent during the solemn profession . He received his theological training in house studies at the neighboring Cistercian abbey Gotteszell . After completing his studies and being ordained a priest, he worked as a novice master from 1727.

In 1738 he was appointed professor at the academic high school in Salzburg. In 1747 he became professor of philosophy at the University of Salzburg and in 1749 professor of theology at the same university. After resigning from his professorship, he worked as a pilgrimage priest from 1759 and as a superior in Maria Plain near Salzburg from 1765 .

In 1774 he returned to his professed monastery in Metten, where he died two years later.
