The Innovation Tower ( Chinese  創新 樓  /  创新 楼 , Pinyin Chuàngxīn Lóu , Jyutping Cong 3 san 1 Lau 4 ), officially called Jockey Club Innovation Tower ( 賽馬 會 創新 樓  /  赛马 会 创新 楼 ), is a faculty building of the School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University . The high-rise complex was designed by Zaha Hadid and is her first permanent building in Hong Kong . Originally, the building was supposed to be completed in late 2011, but it wasn't actually completed until August 2013.

architecture

In 2007, Zaha Hadid won the competition to design the building. In the tender text, a:

"Beacon structure symbolizing and driving the development of Hong Kong as a design hub in Asia."

"A beacon that symbolizes and promotes the development of Hong Kong into a center for design in Asia."

searched. Hadid and her team were guided in the design by the idea of double flexibility between the departments in the building. You wanted to break up the classic typography of high-rise and podium and create a seamless, fluid structure.

financing

In July 2011, the Hong Kong Jockey Club announced that it would be supporting the Innovation Tower with Hong Kong dollars 249 million - in 2011 this corresponded to around 22.5 million euros . As a result, the tower was renamed the Jockey Club Innovation Tower .
