Inoue Genzaburō ( Japanese 井上 源 三郎 ; * April 4, 1829 in Bushu; † January 20, 1868 ) was a samurai of the Bakumatsu period and leader of the 6th unit of the Shinsengumi , a police protection force in Kyoto .

Inoue learned all the techniques of the Tennen Rishin-Ryu sword school and became a master in it in 1860. But he did not live in the Shieikan- Dōjō , where this style was taught. In 1863 he joined the Rōshigumi with his master Kondō Isami and the students Hijikata Toshizō , Okita Sōji , Nagakura Shinpachi , Harada Sanosuke and Tōdo Heisuke .

When this split, he stayed with Kondo in Kyoto. So he decided to support the Shogun in the fight against the emperor. He became the leader of the 6th unit.

During the Ikedaya incident, he managed to arrest eight members of the Shishi (activists) .

He is said to have been a very serious and talented person with the sword.
