The Institut d'études politiques de Rennes (Institute for Political Studies, IEP), also known as the Institut d'études politiques (IEP) or Sciences Po Rennes , is a grande école for political science in France . The current director is Patrick Le Floch. In addition to the IEP Paris and its branch offices, it is now one of eight Institut d'études politiques de Province that are affiliated with local universities.

The IEP was founded in 1991 and is located on the Boulevard de la Duchesse Anne in the Breton capital Rennes . The courses focus on political science, law, history, international relations and economics. The IEP is the University of Rennes I assigned.

history

It was founded on June 13, 1991 by decree at the same time as the Institut d'études politiques de Lille . It was located in a former school building on Boulevard de la Duchesse Anne, designed by the architect Jean-Marie Laloy in 1882.

Due to spatial difficulties, the IEP wanted to gain some new locations in 2010 and thereby increase the number of students. In 2011 Nantes was discussed as a new city, but was then given up due to problems with the University of Nantes . Since 2012 there has also been teaching in Caen .

Education

Normal course of study: le "cursus Sciences Po"

The French students follow the traditional “cursus Sciences Po”. It consists of five academic years. During the first three years, an interdisciplinary approach from economics, law, political science and philosophy is taught. Each student has to choose a specialization: either public law ( Service public ), politics and society ( Politiques et Société ) or economics ( Économie et finances ). The third year must be completed abroad.

The two remaining years will be used for professional specialization. There are 13 different Masters to choose from, which work in combination with a career entry. The teaching staff therefore also includes people from the professional world and compulsory internships must be completed. At the end, the student is presented with the “diplôme Sciences Po”, which counts as a master’s degree. There is no bachelor's degree.

German-French course

With the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt , the IEP de Rennes offers a German-French integrated course in political science.

The German students spend the first year in Eichstätt, then move to Rennes in the second year and complete their bachelor's degree in Eichstätt in the third year. They then pursue a master’s degree in Eichstätt. In the fifth year, students can choose a Masters 2 in Rennes or from cooperating universities in France (network of the IEP).

At the end, five degrees are awarded: the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the KU, the Master in Political Science from the KU, the Diploma Sciences Po from the IEP de Rennes, the Diploma from the Franco-German University and the Master from a French University.

Areas of activity after the course are international cooperation, European politics in Brussels, communication, journalism or economics and finance. According to a survey by the (official) alumni association, 70 percent of the graduates surveyed were employed within the first four months.
