The Institute for Art Therapy and Research / Art and Theater in the Social is a research facility affiliated with the private University of Arts in the Social, Ottersberg . The director is Constanze Schulze-Stampa.

history

The Institute for Art Therapy and Research was founded on November 19, 2004. In May 2005, the University of Applied Sciences' conference and sponsoring company decided to convert the institute into a university facility.

The institute sees itself as a place where art, theater, therapy and scientific research meet. The research activities of the institute include the conception, promotion, implementation and support of practice-oriented research projects. Its basis is the artistic work for and with people.

The tasks include

  • the scientific research and justification of art therapeutic and theater pedagogical practice
  • the conception, promotion and implementation of practice-oriented research projects
  • the development and implementation of training programs
  • the scientific support and accompaniment of art therapeutic and theater pedagogical practical projects

The University of Arts and Social Sciences, Ottersberg has been developing an applied research focus on artistic interventions in health promotion and prevention since 2015, which is funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture. The overarching goal of this is the investigation of artistic and art therapeutic interventions in health promotion and prevention, which are focused in the following five specific application areas within the framework of individual sub-projects:

  1. Hospital as an institution
  2. Multimodal treatment concepts
  3. Social therapeutic concepts in the correctional facility
  4. Corporate cultures
  5. Health-promoting living environments

It is about the merging of artistic and evidence-based research in the sense of mixed methods designs.

The research projects take place in different areas of artistic therapy . This includes clinical , psychotherapeutic , pedagogical , curative pedagogy and other socio-cultural fields as well as free art therapeutic and theater pedagogical practice.
