The Herdecke Community Hospital (GKH) is a hospital in the town of Herdecke in the Westende district . The GKH is a cooperating hospital of the University of Witten / Herdecke .
history
The house was inaugurated in 1969 and was the first anthroposophically oriented hospital in Germany. One of the main founders of the hospital was Gerhard Kienle (1923–1983).
In June 2005, the hospital's management announced that at least three million in salary costs would have to be saved due to the expected shortfall in income due to the flat rate per case and the considerable investment backlog. However, the job cuts feared at the time did not materialize: in mid-2006, around 1,200 employees were working for the community hospital.
In January 2008, the hospital sponsor acquired a 15% shareholding in the Witten / Herdecke private university, which had run into financial difficulties, for 1.9 million euros .
In November 2014, the dementia project “Teekesselchen” at the hospital was recognized as a “place of progress” by the NRW Ministry of Science.
Facility
The hospital is equipped with all the specialist departments necessary for standard care and has 471 beds. As part of acute care, it is regularly responsible for outpatient and inpatient care (including emergency doctor service) in Herdecke and the surrounding area. However, it is also open to all health insurance and private patients nationwide who opt for the anthroposophically extended medicine practiced there .
The GKH is divided into the clinical departments: Intensive care , surgery , early rehabilitation, obstetrics , gynecology , internal medicine , child and adolescent medicine , child and adolescent psychiatry , neurosurgery , neurology with stroke unit , oncology , psychiatry , psychosomatics , department for spinal cord injuries , emergency room / Polyclinic , pain therapy . Characteristic for advanced medicine is u. a. the inclusion of artistic forms of therapy such as painting, sculpting, music therapy , speech formation , eurythmy therapy , drama and theater therapy . as well as special features in care such as wraps and pads, rhythmic rubs and therapeutic ablutions.
Attached to the hospital are a department for clinical research, which deals with rhythm research, among other things , and a department for cancer research, which uses immunological methods in particular to work on mistletoe therapy .
education
The Dörthe Krause Institute (formerly a training institute ) was founded in 1970 and has 75 training positions in nursing.
Patient evaluation
A clinic guide 2010/2011 on behalf of the Initiativkreis Ruhr listed the community hospital on the basis of 28,000 or 800 interviewed patients and doctors within the region in first place in the field of "general surgery". In a patient survey by Techniker Krankenkasse in 2013, the community hospital achieved a value of 82.3 percent and, with ninth place, was one of the ten best-rated hospitals in the Ruhr area.
