The Institute for Quality Development (IQ) was an institution of the State of Hesse for assessing and checking the quality of Hessian educational institutions, based in Wiesbaden . On January 1, 2013, the facility was merged into the " State School Office and Teacher Academy "; the tasks are continued by the state school office.

Organization and structure

The Institute for Quality Development is divided into three departments:

  • Department I External Evaluation: School Inspection

Department I was entrusted with the conception, implementation and evaluation of the school inspection in Hesse. The Hessian Reference Framework for School Quality (HRS) formed the basis for the inspections .

  • Department II Educational Standards, Curricula and Survey of Learning Levels

The main task of Department II was the conception and further development of educational standards and the Hessian core curriculum as well as the implementation and coordination of the central final exams at secondary schools and the central high school . At the same time she carried out surveys of learning levels .

  • Department III Scientific Policy Department: Empirical analyzes of school development

The focus of the work of Department III was on questions and research topics relating to school and teaching development, school quality and educational control, as well as external and internal quality assurance measures (evaluation). Originally, this department also included the accreditation of further training offers and providers, the implementation of effectiveness studies and school development projects (model projects). The accreditation was transferred to the Office for Teacher Education (AfL) at the time of the IQ , and the model projects area was closed.
