The Institute for State Church Law of the Dioceses of Germany is an institution of the Association of Dioceses of Germany (VDD) founded in 1970 and based in Bonn .

The Institute for State Church Law was founded in 1970 by the German Bishops' Conference , under the leadership of the Diocese of Essen , and has been supported by the Association of Dioceses of Germany since 1975. The founding director was the Jesuit Joseph Listl , supported by Heiner Marré and Karl Eugen Schlief .

The institute's task is to deal scientifically with state church law in science and practice. In addition to providing legal advice to church organizations and providing information on state church law developments, the institute is to monitor the development of the relationship between state , religion and church .

The institute is supported by a scientific advisory board ( Josef Isensee (chair), Christian Starck and others).
