The Institut national de la météorologie ( INM ) , Arabic الجمهورية التونسية - وزارة النقل( English National Institute of Meteorology , NIM ) is the meteorological and geophysical service of Tunisia . He is also responsible for agro- hydrography , nautical science and astronomy .

history

The first meteorological measurements in the modern sense in Tunisia date back to 1873. In 1885 a French weather station was set up in Tunis- Manoubia . In 1923, the Météorologique de France Office set up a weather forecast network centered at El Aouina Airport (Service d'El Aouina) .

In the course of Tunisia's independence (1956), the Bureau d'inventaire des ressources hydriques et pluviométriques was created in 1955 , which was then set up in 1958 as the Service National de la Météorologie (National Service of Meteorology) and the Direction des Services Aériens et Maritimes at the Ministère des Travaux Publics et de l'Habitat was subordinated. In 1973 it was transformed into the Direction de la Météorologie (Department of Meteorology) , in 1974 into the Institut National de la Météorologie (National Institute of Meteorology) . Since 2009 (Loi N ° 10 de l'année 2009) it has been operating in the legal form of an Etablissement public à caractère non administratif (EPNA).

The authority is now subordinate to the Ministry of Transport ( Ministère du Transport ) . Abdelwahab Enmiri has been General Director (Directeur général) since 2012.

The head office is located in the Cité olympique El Khadhra in Tunis (Avenue Mohamed Ali Akid). It has six regional offices in Tunis , Jendouba , Sousse , Sfax , Tozeur and Medenine .

The tasks include meteorology , geophysics and climate research , the aviation weather service and nautical science , agrohydrology and related development , as well as relevant issues in tourism , and astronomical ephemeris calculation .
