Instituto Caro y Cuervo
The Instituto Caro y Cuervo is a Colombian research institute for literature , philology and linguistics , based in Bogotá district La Candelaria . We have the Bogotan Instituto Caro y Cuervo to thank for the linguistic (and cultural) research into Spanish in Colombia. Its task is to spread a literary culture in Colombia.
The institute publishes critical editions, especially by Colombian authors. The institute is named after the former Colombian president, scientist and philosopher Miguel Antonio Caro (1843–1909) and the Colombian writer Rufino José Cuervo (1844–1911).
The institute was founded in 1942 by a law encouraging the continuation of philological research. Among other things, the Diccionario de Construcción y Régimen de la Lengua Castellana (German: Dictionary of the structure and order of the Castilian language) or Rufino José Cuervo with his Disquisiciones Filológicas (German: Philological investigations) were published.
In 1999 the Instituto Caro y Cuervo received the Prince of Asturias Prize for Communication and Human Sciences for the Diccionario de Construcción y Régimen de la Lengua Castellana , the main work of Rufino José Cuervo.
