Instrument Systems is a technology company headquartered in Munich that deals with the development, production and sale of light measurement technology. The company has been part of Konica Minolta since 2012 . Instrument Systems develops and produces in Munich and Berlin; the majority of sales are generated abroad.

The product portfolio includes spectroradiometers, imaging light measurement systems and goniophotometers. The company's measuring devices and systems are used in the LED industry worldwide; Other areas of application include testing and calibration of displays , etc. a. in the consumer electronics industry, as well as testing headlights and signal lights in the automotive and transport industries.

history

Richard Distl based instrument system while still a student of the Technical University of Munich in 1986. Initially, the company and the first product developments were a TOU Promotion ( t echnology o rien oriented U nternehmensgründung) from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research funded. As a teenager, Richard Distl developed a new polarimeter concept together with a classmate as part of Jugend Forscht . A further development of this principle for determining the wavelength of light radiation as well as the concept for the later fast scanning technology of spectrometers formed the basis for the founding of Instrument Systems.

In 2009 the company was accredited as a test laboratory according to ISO 17025. With the takeover of the light measurement division optronics from X-Rite Inc. , Instrument Systems established a second development and production location in Berlin. In 2012 Konica Minolta acquired 100% of the company's shares. In 2013, Instrument Systems took over the development and manufacturing rights from Autronic-Melchers , a manufacturer of display measuring systems. The founder Richard Distl left the company in 2014. In 2018 a location was established in Vietnam; In connection with this, the subsidiary Instrument Systems Vietnam Company Ltd was founded .

Sales development

With the growth of the LED industry and the increasing market penetration of LED lighting and displays , the company's sales also rose continuously from 2009 to 2018. In 2010, the Korean electronics manufacturer LG placed an order with Innotek Instrument Systems for the delivery of array spectrometers worth several million euros. In the 2017/18 financial year, Instrument Systems generated sales of EUR 144.3 million for the first time above the EUR 100 million mark.

Business activity

Instrument Systems develops and manufactures devices and complete solutions for measuring light sources and displays. The measuring systems sometimes combine several measuring devices and additional components, e.g. B. for automatic positioning, external lighting or temperature control of the test objects. The control of the systems, data collection and display are carried out with software developed in-house. The company also offers modular systems that can be configured for different applications, as well as solutions that are fully developed according to customer specifications.

The company's products are used in research and development, in industrial production (rapid tests), in production-accompanying quality control and analysis (e.g. in light laboratories) and in certification (in testing institutes). The measuring devices and systems are used in particular to measure LEDs and LED modules, SSL light sources, automotive and traffic lighting as well as LED and OLED displays .

Product portfolio

Instrument Systems manufactures spectrometers (spectroradiometers in array construction), photometers and colorimeters , color measuring cameras, integrating spheres and goniophotometers .

Accredited test laboratories

Instrument Systems' laboratories have been accredited by the German Accreditation Service (DAkkS) according to DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025. This internationally recognized standard defines the requirements for management as well as the testing and calibration laboratories and thus guarantees the comparability of the resulting measurement results.

The standards used in the test laboratories can be traced back directly to the reference standards of the national laboratories PTB (Germany) and NIST (USA).

Others

In 2011 Instrument Systems was nominated for the Grand Prix for Medium-Sized Enterprises.

Instrument Systems is a member of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and in this capacity contributes, among other things, to the development and regular updating of the guideline document "CIE 127", which gives recommendations for the measurement of LEDs.
