Intel 8256

The Intel 8256 is a programmable multi-function block ( English multi-function universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter , MUART ) and summarizes four frequently used functions together: serial port , parallel port , timer / counter , and interrupt controller . The module can be used with the Intel 8048 , 8085 , 8086 and 8088 processor systems. The module is supplied in a 40-pin DIL housing . He was u. a. licensed to Siemens .

• The serial interface can be operated with 5-, 6-, 7- or 8-bit characters and 1, 1.5 or 2 stop bits .
• The parallel interface contains two 8-bit I / O ports.
• There are five 8-bit timers / counters. Four of these can be combined into two cascaded 16-bit timers.
• Eight interrupt levels can be processed.
