Interactive Terminology for Europe (IATE) is the terminology database for the institutions of the European Union .

The IATE database combines the terminology stocks of various EU translation services that were previously maintained separately in a single database that contains around 1 million entries. The entries were imported from the terminology databases Eurodicautom (Commission), TIS (Council), Euterpe (Parliament), Euroterms (Translation Center) and CDCTERM (Court of Auditors).

The project started in 1999. Since the summer of 2004 it has been used by the EU institutions and organizations for the collection, dissemination and joint management of EU-specific terminology . Since March 2007, anyone can access it via the web.

Search in IATE

In principle, you can search in IATE in all 24 official languages ​​of the European Union and in Latin . You have the option of setting the source and target language as well as searching in all languages ​​at the same time. If desired, you can narrow down the subject area and determine whether you want to search for certain terms, abbreviations or just everything. There are also various online services that allow a parallel search in IATE and other sources, e.g. B. Web Term Search or MetaTerm.
