Identification of the farmhouse interest group

The Interest Group Bauernhaus eV (IGB) is the only association active throughout Germany for the preservation of historical building culture in the countryside and in small towns.

history

The IGB was founded in 1973 in Kirchseelte (today the municipality of Harpstedt , Lower Saxony ). The founder and longstanding 1st chairman of the IGB was Julius HW Kraft (1917–2008).

The association is currently represented in all German federal states with 150 contact and branch offices. In 2006 it had over 6,000 members.

The aim of the association is to provide food for thought in order to counteract the destruction of centuries-old cultural assets in rural areas. There are also practical help for farmhouse friends for repair and maintenance measures, in order to contribute to the maintenance of the site . The value of historic rural buildings should be made aware and contributed to the recognition of their value.

The IGB membership magazine is Der Holznagel with the motto "The wooden nail connects - The wooden nail holds together - The wooden nail holds fast" (the wooden nail is the connecting element between the beams of a half-timbered house ). For decades, Julius HW Kraft headed the editorial department, wrote many articles himself and contributed drawings and photos. In this way the members can be reached in writing and the goals of the IGB can be implemented.

The IGB publishes a series of books under the name “Holznagelschriften” on various topics, such as construction technology, house research and farmhouse routes.
