The International Biocontrol Manufacturers' Association (IBMA) is the worldwide association of the organic plant protection industry based in Brussels .
history
In 1995 the IBMA was founded in Brighton (England), of which Bernard Blum was the founding president for 19 years. The Bernard Blum Award has been presented in his honor since 2015 . The subsequent presidents were: Michel Guillon, Denise Munday, Owen Jones and Willem Ravensberg. The association sees itself as a platform for manufacturers of organic plant protection products towards the European Union , the OECD and the FAO .
The members' experiences are exchanged in workshops, particularly at the annual ABIM Congress in Basel . In contrast to the chemical plant protection industry ( Industrieverband Agrar ), IBMA members use bioeffectors , i.e. plant juices and soil organisms, as the basis for their products. The aim is to create products against plant diseases and pests that can also be used in the organic production of food.
Although the products sold produce general plant vitalization, the aim of the group is to combat specific diseases and pests in plant and food production with biological systems.
In European politics, the promotion of organic plant production is increasing rapidly. The organization tries to make a contribution with its products.
