International DOI Foundation
The International DOI Foundation (IDF) is an American organization. It is the operator of the DOI system ( Digital Object Identifier ), which assigns an identifier and a location to scientific documents.
It was created on the initiative of three organizations:
- International Publishers Association
- International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers
- Association of American Publishers.
The foundation was incorporated in the state of Delaware , USA on October 10, 1997 under number 2807134 8100. It was presented to the public in 1997 at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The chairman is the mathematician Jan Brase. For registration according to the ISO 26324 standard, an agreement between ISO and IDF has existed since 2010 . There is a cooperation with the Corporation for National Research Initiatives for the use of the handle system.
