International Mobile Subscriber Identity
The International Mobile Subscriber Identity ( IMSI , German International Mobile Subscriber Identity ) is used in GSM - UMTS - and LTE - mobile networks to uniquely identify the network subscriber (internal subscriber identity). In addition to other data, the IMSI is stored on a special chip card , the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module). The IMSI number is assigned once per SIM worldwide by the mobile network operators. The IMSI has nothing to do with the telephone number assigned to the SIM card.
construction
The IMSI consists of a maximum of 15 digits and is composed as follows:
- Mobile Country Code (MCC), 3 digits
- Mobile Network Code (MNC), 2 or 3 digits
- Mobile Subscriber Identification Number (MSIN), 1-10 digits
Examples of an IMSI:
- 262 01 9876543210
- MCC 262 for Germany, MNC 01 for T-Mobile, MSIN 9876543210 for the subscriber.
- 262 02 9745642210
- MCC 262 for Germany, MNC 02 for Vodafone D2, MSIN 9745642210 for the subscriber.
- 310 240 974564247
- MCC 310 for USA, MNC 240 for Voicestream, MSIN 974564247 for the subscriber.
- 262 07 9745642247
- MCC 262 for Germany, MNC 07 for O 2 , MSIN 9745642247 for the participant.
