International Polar Foundation

The Internationale Polarstiftung , English International Polar Foundation (IPF), is an international organization based in Brussels .

In 2002 the predecessor organization Fondation d'Utilité Publique ( charitable foundation ) was founded in Belgium . It also has facilities in France , Switzerland and the UK .

One of the main activities of the IPF is to inform the public about research in the polar regions and the effects of climate change in these regions, to support innovative educational projects and activities with a view to sustainable development and to act as an interface between science and society Promote the public to polar research .

On behalf of the Belgian government, the International Polar Foundation is planning and building the world's first emission-free research facility in the Antarctic , the 700 m² Princess Elisabeth Station . The IPF is also the operating company of the new polar research station.

The Belgian King Philip is Honorary President.
