The International Power plc is an international power generation company created from the splitting of National Power in 2001. At that time the British national business of the company was spun off and first in Innogy, from 2 August 2004, RWE npower renamed. The foreign activities were renamed International Power.
International Power has been listed on the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange (as ADRs) since October 2, 2000. The ticker symbol on both exchanges was IPR, ISIN GB0006320161. After a two-and-a-half year exclusion, the shares were re-included in the FTSE 100 index in March 2005 .
The company is one of the leading independent power producers worldwide with a net installed capacity of over 16,642 MW. International Power operates and plans power plants in the following countries: Australia , United States , United Kingdom , Czech Republic , Italy , Portugal , Spain , Turkey , Bahrain , Oman , Qatar , Saudi Arabia , United Arab Emirates , Indonesia , Malaysia , Pakistan , Puerto Rico and Thailand .
International Power is headquartered at Senator House at 85 Queen Victoria Street in London .
International Power was taken over by GDF Suez on August 10, 2010 for over 6 billion euros .
