International Trypanotolerance Center
The International Trypanotolerance Center (ITC) is an agricultural research institute in the West African state of Gambia .
The non-profit and independent organization was founded in 1982. The research focus lies in the West African region with the humid and semi-humid climate in the improvement of the livestock industry in the areas of animal health , productivity and use - especially those of the N'Dama cattle. The part of the name trypanotolerance refers to African trypanosomiasis , which is also known as sleeping sickness and is transmitted by tsetse flies .
The ITC is headquartered west of Kerr Seringe Ngaga on the Senegambia Highway and is on the edge of the Bijilo Forest Park . Further field stations are located in Keneba and Bansang .
