The International Arctic Social Science Association (IASSA) promotes international cooperation between social scientists in national and international Arctic research, is the interface for the exchange of information between similar organizations with similar objectives and offers a forum for public relations work. IASSA is a member of the International Science Council and the umbrella organization for the International Arctic Science Committee , the University of the Arctic and the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists

history

At a conference of international non-governmental organizations for the coordination of research in the Arctic, held in Leningrad in 1988 , the general wish to found an umbrella organization was discussed, which should also take into account the social aspects of polar ethnic groups in its statutes.

aims

The IASSA defines the Arctic as all arctic and sub-arctic regions of the world. Her research encompasses all disciplines with psychological , cultural , anthropological , archaeological , linguistic, historical, social, legal, economic, ecological and political topics, as well as health, education, arts and humanities and related topics.

The IASSA has set itself the following goals:

  • Promotion of international cooperation and increase with the participation of social scientists in national and international Arctic research;
  • Promotion of communication and coordination with other research institutions;
  • Promoting the exchange, dissemination and archiving of scientific information in the arctic social sciences;
  • Promoting mutual respect, communication and collaboration between social scientists and people from the north;
  • to promote cultural, developmental and linguistic education in the north;
  • Follow IASSA ethical guidelines when conducting research in the Arctic
