The French internment camp Barcarès near the commune of Le Barcarès in the Pyrénées-Orientales department was next to the internment camp Camp de Gurs , the internment camp Argelès-sur-Mer , the internment camp Saint-Cyprien , the internment camp Camp de Rivesaltes , the internment camp Le Vernet and the Internment Camp Septfonds a camp for the internment of the remains of the Spanish Republican People's Army (Ejército Popular de la República (EPR)). In 1939, at the end of the Spanish Civil War , the French authorities allowed the Spanish refugees to flee from Franco's troops to France. The Barcarès internment camp served to receive refugees from Spain until the start of the German Wehrmacht's western campaign . Under the Vichy regime , the camp continued to be used as an internment camp.
