Iolanda Cintura

Iolanda Pedro Campos Cintura Seuane , Iolanda Cintura for short , (born October 24, 1972 in Vila Pery , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican chemist and politician ( FRELIMO ). From 2010 to 2015 she headed the Mozambican Ministry for Women and Social Affairs. She has been the governor of the capital Maputo since 2015.

Life

Youth and education

Cintura grew up in the small town of Vila Pery, today's Chimoio, until she and her family moved to Beira at the age of eight, where she attended the Escola Primária do Macurungo . She later moved to the capital, Maputo, where she attended the Escola Secundária Francisco Manyanga . She completed her training in 1989.

After long struggles and occasional smaller jobs, she began to study chemistry at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane . She completed her studies in 1999 with a licenciatura . At the same time, Cintura gained further qualifications and acquired various training certificates: management and administration of fuels (Norwegian Oil Institute, 1999), links between energy and gender sciences (Department of Energy, Washington, 2001) and two certificates in leadership and management skills ( Universidade Pedagogica de Maputo , 2007 and 2011).

Professional career and promotion

Although actually with the intention to work directly in the industry, Cintura quickly moved to the Mozambican administration and took on various positions within the Ministry of Energy (now the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy). From 2000 to 2003 she was Head of the Fuels Department, Deputy Head of the Energy Department in 2003/04 and Head of the Fuels Office from 2004 to 2010. As part of these tasks, Cintura was also on the board of directors of the state-run Petromoc from 2008 to 2010 and a member of the SADC sub-committee for oil in 1999 .

In 2010 Armando Guebuza appointed Cintura to his cabinet and entrusted her with the department for women and social affairs ( Ministério de Mulher e Acção Social ).

After the 2015 presidential election, the new President Nyusi Cintura no longer appointed her to the cabinet, but instead appointed her governor of the capital Maputo.

Private

Cintura is married and then took the surname Seuane. She has two children and is of Christian, Catholic faith.
