Iole de Freitas

Iole de Freitas (* 1945 in Belo Horizonte ) is a visual artist from Brazil who works primarily with the means of installation , sculpture and photography.

Iole de Freitas's family moved with her to Rio de Janeiro in 1951 . There she began ballet training. From 1964 to 1965 she attended the design school Escola Superior de Deseñho Industrial (ESDI) in Rio de Janeiro. In 1970 she moved to Milan , where she lived for the next eight years. In 1971 she started working as a designer in the Olivetti design studio in Hans von Klier's team . In 1973 her artistic work was exhibited for the first time.

Iole de Freitas had her first artistic successes with photographs and experimental films; In doing so, she recorded her dance experiences in films and in performances. In 1978 she returned to Brazil. in the 1980s she shifted her work to sculptures, with temporary installations and new materials such as plexiglass and other plastics predominating. Iole de Freitas lives and works in Rio de Janeiro.
