Walter Heun

Walter Heun (born July 10, 1962 in Hof ) is a German cultural manager , dance and theater producer.

Life

Heun began his career in 1984 as a co-founder of the choreographers' collective Dance Energy and as director of the Tanztage München in 1986 and 1989. Since then he has been involved as an initiator, member and artistic director in various national and international institutions, particularly for contemporary dance and performance art .

In 1990 he founded the dance and theater production company Joint Adventures . In 1987 Heun was a co-founder of Tanztendenz München e. V. and took over the management of this central rehearsal and production facility for the Munich dance scene until 1993. In 1990 he initiated and coordinated the BRDance festival , which presented contemporary dance from Germany for the first time nationwide in 15 cities and around 120 performances, as well as a symposium on the training situation in contemporary dance in Germany.

In 1991 Heun realized the dance workshop Europe for the first time in Munich. Also in 1991 he launched the National Performance Network (NPN), a model to promote cooperation between artists and organizers and to distribute contemporary dance and later also theater productions.

He was artistic advisor and program planner for various festivals (International Dance Festival North Rhine-Westphalia 1996; Ideas of March, Bavarian Theater Academy in the Prinzregententheater Munich, 1993–1997).

Artistic director in Lucerne and Vienna

1999–2004 Heun was artistic director of luzerntanz at the Lucerne Theater , the choreographic center he initiated, which harmonized the “Maison de la danse” and “Centers chorégraphiques” production methods known in France with the city theater model of the German-speaking area. In addition to his regular production activities, he also realized several festivals and events such as “Swiss Dance Days 2000”, “Body as site - Body as bite” and “Nouvelle danse”.

Heun has been artistic director of the Tanzquartier Wien since the 2009/2010 season .
