Dance platform Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Germany Dance Platform is a German forum for contemporary dance . It is aimed at guests from home and abroad, cultural organizers, the trade press and a broad public. Every two years changing local organizers realize the individual editions of the dance platform.

From the current German productions, a jury invites exemplary artistic positions in contemporary dance and presents them to an international specialist audience, organizers, press and interested parties. Together with the International Theater Institute , the most important representatives of contemporary dance are presented and archived in the portraits of the program manual.

History and current development

The dance platform Germany was created in 1994 from the national preselection for the biennial choreography competition “Rencontres choréographiques internationales de Bagnolet” near Paris, the most important choreography competition in the world.

The " Rencontres choréographiques ", the BRDance Festival (1990) and the national performance network (1992/93) gradually shaped the project idea of the dance platform Germany through their nationwide approaches to structural support for choreographers and through their productions. Since 2002, the organizers of the Dance Platform Germany - like those of other countries and independently of a French jury - have determined the choreographers who will take part in the national platforms, whose invitation to the festival in Bagnolet will then be examined. In 2004 a board of trustees was set up to select works from the past season. In addition to the organizing institution, it consists of two independent, expert jury members.

In 2012 the dance platform took place in the Dresden Festspielhaus Hellerau , in 2014 at Kampnagel in Hamburg and in 2016 in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region. In 2018 the dance platform of PACT Zollverein will be organized in Essen and Gelsenkirchen. [outdated]
