Tafelhalle
The Tafelhalle is a cultural center in Nuremberg . The building was originally erected in 1909 and 1910 as the panel factory's screw factory. After renovation work, it was reopened in its new function in October 1987. In addition to a large theater hall, the Tafelhalle houses a rehearsal stage and a theater café, which offers the opportunity to perform. In addition, administration rooms are housed in the building. The neighboring Museum of Industrial Culture is also housed in the buildings of the former Tafelwerk .
Building history
The Nürnberg Tafelwerk, one of the city's large industrial complexes , was originally an iron rolling mill . It was founded in 1876 by Julius Tafel . In 1975 the ironworks was shut down and later largely demolished. As a structural testimony to the industrial revolution , the former screw production hall was the only building that remained. The building, erected between 1909 and 1910, is used today on the one hand by the Museum of Industrial Culture and on the other hand by the Tafelhalle, which was established in 1987.

Today the Tafelhalle is primarily a venue for the independent dance and theater scene in Nuremberg, with the aim of promoting and networking them. In addition, as part of the KunstKulturQuartier, it is a multi-faceted event and production facility under municipal ownership . The large theater hall can seat 500 people.
The programmatic focus includes the fields of music, dance and theater. In addition, the Tafelhalle is the scene of numerous events, such as the annual award ceremony of the Nuremberg City Prize and other city awards (cabaret prize, human rights film prize). Once a year the Tafelhalle of the German Academy for Football Culture offers a stage for the gala for the Football Culture Prize.
Dance and theater
In the field of dance and theater, the Tafelhalle, as a co-producer and guest theater, offers a stage for up-and- coming artists as well as established choreographers, directors and dancers from the independent scene. She is the initiator of interdisciplinary projects and new event formats. There is a close cooperation with the ballroom in the Künstlerhaus Nürnberg , another venue for dance and theater performances.
The Tafelhalle is a co-organizer (2010 also host) of the Tanzplattform Deutschland , a nationwide network of independent dance production centers.
music
The musical program of the Tafelhalle is made up of various concert series. Contemporary classical music has been an integral part of the program for 25 years as part of a close cooperation with the ensemble Kontraste . This resulted in the series of events Contrasts - Classic in the Tafelhalle with concerts, puppet shows, silent film screenings with live accompaniment and the poet's café.
The Art of Jazz is a jazz concert series in cooperation with the Nuremberg Jazz Studio . Since 1980, jazz greats as well as up-and-coming artists have made guest appearances in the Tafelhalle as part of this series.
The Sunday Night Orchestra regularly plays big band jazz in the theater café.
Current music from Scandinavia is presented in the concert series nordwärts with singers / songwriters , bands and music groups of various genres (including jazz and folk ). Artists, musicians and bands from the world music scene will find a stage in the Tafelhalle as well as musical crossover projects.
