The Tanzquartier Wien (TQW) has been a center for contemporary dance and performance since 2001 , located in the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna .

history

The Tanzquartier Wien opened in autumn 2001 as a production and event house in the MuseumsQuartier almost at the same time as the MUMOK , the Leopold Museum , the ZOOM Children's Museum and the Vienna Architecture Center . It is the first production and event center in Austria that focuses exclusively on the genres of contemporary dance and performance . The TQW shows a changing guest performance and production program with local and international productions, offers professional dancers and performers daily training and regular workshops and has a public theory and media center (with library and media library).

The TQW has different venues within the MuseumsQuartier: Hall E + G and the studio complex with three studios. It works closely with related institutions at home and abroad, such as the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt am Main, the Productiehuis Rotterdam ( Rotterdamse Schouwburg ), the Choreographic Center NRW in Essen and the Art Center Vooruit in Ghent.

The sponsor is the Tanzquartier Wien GmbH , whose managing director Ulrike Heider-Lintschinger has been since 2001. Until 2009, founding director Sigrid Gareis was the artistic director of the TQW . Her successor was Walter Heun from Munich since July 1, 2009 . From 2018 Bettina Kogler took over the management.
