Irénée host

Irénée host SJ (born June 7, 1891 in Eguisheim , Alsace , France , † December 5, 1978 in Colmar , France) was a French Jesuit and professor of patristic and Eastern Church spirituality at the Pontifical Oriental Institute .

Irénée Hausherr attended the apostolic school in Thieu, Belgium, and joined the Jesuit order in 1909 . During the First World War, Hausherr studied Catholic theology in Gemert (Netherlands), Enghien (Belgium) and Paris . The host also studied German and English, Greek, Syriac, Armenian, Arabic, Russian and Slavic languages. He was ordained a priest on July 15, 1923. After studying philology and theology , he taught at the Oriental Institute in Rome from 1927 . In 1934 he became a professor of Christian spirituality, and later also professor of patristics.

The landlord is considered to be the founder of the basics of Eastern spirituality as a scientific discipline. His successor, Tomáš Špidlík , further expanded the scientific discipline. Hausherr published numerous scientific papers.
