The Irízar Lagoon is a lagoon on Deception Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . At Port Foster , it is located in the Irízar Crater between Mount Irízar and the Argentine station Decepción .
Polish scientists named it in 1999 based on the name of the mountain and crater of the same name. Its namesake is Julián Irízar (1869-1935), captain of the Argentine corvette Uruguay , which was used in the rescue of the stranded participants in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901-1903).
